Quilt Festival - Aunts and Nieces

Last summer I had the wonderful pleasure of helping my niece make a baby quilt for her fiancĂ©'s niece.  It was so much fun going shopping for fabric and working through the process with her.  Looking back on it, the experience was even richer in tradition for us.  The first quilt I ever made was with my aunt.  I was 17 and she helped me make a quilt for my bed, a tied quilt that I still have today!  So my aunt helped me (her niece).  And I helped my niece make a quilt for her (almost) niece.  Spending time together working towards a common goal certainly strengthens relationships.  I am so incredibly thankful for family.

Quilt dimensions - approximately 45" x 60"
backing - lovely soft minkee-like fabric with the lovely dots found in strips on the front

My niece and I have picked out material for her wedding gift quilt.  I am looking forward to the process of making the quilt for the two of them.

Quilt Festival - purple majesty

It's time for the blogger's quilt festival again.  I've been enjoying the posts and the inspiration from the quilts!  My list of things to try just keeps getting longer.  Thanks to all!

Here is one of my finished quilts.  It's a quilt I made for a cousin's wedding.  She loves purple, so purple it would be.  I was surprised how hard it was for me to find purples that I liked.  But I LOVE the result.  I kind of want to make another one - for me.  I hope you like it.  But the most important thing to me really is that Alena and Chris like it.  I just love how quilts can bring love to those who receive them.

Quilt made with Rectangle Squared tutorial from Film in the Fridge.  Thank you!
Quilt is approximately 64" square.

Quilt Festival

I've been enjoying seeing the quilts shown by the multitude of creative individuals from oh, so man places.  Once again, I've added to my list of "oooh, I want to try that."  (As yet, an unwritten list, so it doesn't feel quite so daunting.

I knew which quilt I wanted to put in.  And then I read the requirements.  The one I wanted to put in is not finished.  It's still at the quilter's home, so it'll have to wait until next time.  Choice #2 is also at the quilter's.  So, it's on to choice number three.  Fortunately, I actually managed to finish quite a few quilts this year.

So, here it is.  My entry for the quilt festival.  I love this quilt.  I made it with material bought on a FART (Fabric Acquisition Road Trip - can't take credit for the acronym) with friends.  The trip was attempted in March one year.  We were stymied by bad winter weather and didn't make our destination.  (Still had a delightful trip with friends and managed to find some fabric.)  We tried again in the summer and managed to make it to the Eureka Quilt Show.  We had a fabulous time.  I already had the charm pack for this line (Moda - Collections for a Cause - Tradition) and I picked up the layercake and jellyroll on the trip.  These were turned into a scruffy throw quilt made with a tutorial I found at Moda Bake Shop (Scruffily Quilt).

This quilt makes me smile every time I see it.  It reminds me of my special times with friends.  And it reminds me of how playing with fabric makes every day better.
